About Digital Downz Mastering
Based in Melbourne's Southeast, Chris Downer provides boutique professional audio mastering services for artists, bands and producers across all genres. With more than 30 years of experience in music, Chris combines technical expertise with a musician's perspective. His journey has included running a recording studio alongside former Sing Sing engineer Matt Voigt, performing as a bassist, managing bands, and delivering large-scale commercial audio-visual and acoustic projects.
At Digital Downz Mastering, mastering is where science meets art. Combining state-of-the-art digital processing with carefully selected analogue circuitry and fully recallable workflows, Chris focuses on serving the song, enhancing the emotional impact of every mix while remaining true to the artist's vision. His approach has been shaped by decades of industry experience and mentorship under Nashville producer and mastering engineer John Mayfield, whose career spans almost six decades in music production.
The philosophy is simple: the artist is the star. Technology, equipment and engineering techniques should always be in service of the song and performance. Mastering should not change the music—it should reveal its full potential and help listeners experience the emotion, energy and meaning intended by the artist. Whether you're releasing a single, EP, album, CD, vinyl record or digital release, Chris looks forward to helping your music connect with listeners and translate across every playback system.
